Although online shopping is not a new phenomenon, it has boomed in Luxembourg during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Letzshop.lu platform was launched just two years ago and has gained popularity among business owners in the Grand Duchy, particularly in 2020. In the first 9 months of the year, 204 businesses joined the online shopping site - 120 of whom signed up in April alone.

Minister for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, Lex Delles, offered the above figures in response to a parliamentary question raised by Pirate MP Marc Goergen.

The minister did not have current figures for the number of companies which have unsubscribed from the service, but Delles specified that the contracts for businesses joining the platform lasted for 24 months.

The number of products now available on Letzshop lies between 345,000 and 370,000.

In five months, more than 450,000 users visited Letzshop for 700,000 sessions, consulting 3.2 million pages on the platform.

Delles explained the "Luxembourg for Shopping" team was constantly striving to improve awareness of the platform, although he added that the online merchants needed to demonstrate a certain amount of engagement as a crucial factor. To add to the platform's success, businesses needed to market their Letzshop presence to customers, process orders as efficiently as possible, and regularly update their online stock.

The minister went on to say that the team constantly analysed which new functions could be added to the platform. In early November, Letzshop added the option to purchase vouchers online.
