Hotels, restaurants and cafes can remain open for business in Luxembourg, while our neighbours have all had to close down. Unfortunately, some establishments still do not respect the sanitary rules, deplores the Horesca federation.

The Horesca federation has welcomed the government's decision to keep cafes and restaurants open, but has underlined in a press release that this can only continue "if the establishments in question follow the sanitary rules."

Unfortunately, some establishments do not comply with all legal provisions, as the Police have observed in recent days. "They endanger public health and risk causing an overall shutdown of our sector," the federation writes.

Here are the rules currently in place:

  • Each table can only accommodate a maximum of 4 people unless the guests are from the same household
  • A maximum of 100 customers inside the restaurant
  • Customers only to be served seated
  • Tables set side by side are separated by a distance of at least 1.5metres, or otherwise with pysical barrier
  • Wearing a mask is compulsory for customers when not seated
  • Wearing a mask is compulsory for staff in direct contact with the customer
  • Closing must take place no later than 11 pm (start of the curfew).

Fines for non-compliance with health rules vary from € 4,000 to € 8,000 and a repeat offense may result in the temporary withdrawal of the establishment's trade authorisation.
