The Archbishop’s office explained to RTL on 19 October that special measures will be in place for All Saints this year. Where social distancing is not possible, masks must be worn when arriving at and leaving the cemetery.
Sole exception: if people from the same household gather for the blessing and if a 2 metre safety can be maintained between individual graves.
The public blessing of graves will not take place this year. Priests and deacons will visit the cemeteries without specifying the time they will attend, and without the public.
Parishes will toll the church bells on All Saints’ Day (1 November) and All Souls’ Day (2 November) for five minutes at 12.05pm to commemorate the dead and the victims of the pandemic.
Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich will hold a mass on All Souls’ Day at the cathedral in Luxembourg City.
