On Tuesday, the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Statec) announced that the next automatic wage indexation will take place at the earliest in June 2022.

The coronavirus crisis has slowed the increase in prices. As a result, the next automatic wage indexation - synonymous with a 2.5% increase in wages, salaries, and pensions - has been postponed.

According to statements made by a Statec representative in the Finance Committee of the Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday, it will, at the earliest, take place in June 2022, two and a half years after the last automatic wage indexation.

The inflation rate is expected to reach 1.3% in 2021. The rate currently sits at about 0.9%. At the beginning of the year, the date of the next automatic wage indexation was announced for autumn 2021.
