Thursday’s report from the Ministry of Health recorded 214 new cases among residents, from just under 6,000 tests.
53 people are in hospital due to coronavirus, with four of them in intensive care.
Speaking from the European summit in Brussels, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel confirmed on Friday morning that the rapid increase of infections is a cause of concern for the government, saying:
“We are worried about the new infection numbers. I will call a Government Council meeting in the next few days.”
On Friday evening, he will meet the Minister of Health along with a group of experts to discuss the current situation.
An extraordinary Government Council may meet over the weekend to decide on new restrictions, but Bettel did not want to speculate on what these might look like.
The situation in hospitals is not currently a cause for concern and of course, says Bettel, we would like it to stay that way.
