The figures published cover both public and private schools in Luxembourg. The report applies to the period from 15 September to 9 October, with nearly 300 infections detected in schools in just 25 days - an average of 11 infections per day, including weekends.
The majority of cases were traced to public secondary schools, accounting for 117 infections, while 81 cases were detected in primary schools. According to the Ministry, the majority of cases were directly linked to the virus evolution among the general population and reflected the recent trends seen across the country as cases increased.
The Ministry emphasised that schools were not a source of infection, as both pupils and teachers showed a tendency to contract the virus at home and in society, as Minister Claude Meisch has said on numerous occasions.
