
On Wednesday morning, at the traditional City Breakfast, lingering doubts were dispelled: the capital’s traditional Christmas market will take place this winter.
News that will certainly please mulled wine lovers and those who feared that the pandemic might interfere with Luxembourg’s end-of-year festivities.
Mayor Lydie Polfer has confirmed on Wednesday morning that there will indeed be a Christmas market which will open its doors on 20 November and close on 3 January.
An edition that will nevertheless be adapted according to the health measures put in place by the government.
The tents would be arranged in such a way that visitors could be served and sit down to eat, Polfer explained. Takeouts would not be allowed and the wearing of face masks would be compulsory, she added.
Several squares and streets will host stands including Place de la Constitution (Gëlle Fra), Place du Théâtre, Grand-Rue, Place Royal-Hamilius, Rue de Strasbourg and Puits Rouge.
Other good news: the ice rink, the big wheel, and carousels will also be there. The 24 districts of the capital will of course be decorated. One downside: there will be no concerts this year.
“We hope that the health situation will not worsen,” concluded Lydie Polfer, implying that the Christmas market could be cancelled if circumstances change.
