However, Syvicol (the Union of Cities and Municipalities in Luxembourg) published a press release describing mixed reactions following Thursday's meeting with the government, saying it was "disappointing".
The union said they had initially requested the meeting on 19 June, in order to discuss the financial impact of the Covid-19 crisis on the municipalities, and to debate the possibilities of involving Syvicol on a legislative level.
The president of the union, CSV MP Emile Eicher, asked that the methods for granting state subsidies be revised, in particular for those concerning education and informal training.
The Minister of the Interior, Taina Bofferding, responded that subsidies had seen a 5% increase due to Covid-19, from 35% to 40%. Bofferding added that the financial situation was not yet at a crucial point for municipalities; however, she acknowledged that the question of the subsidies would be subjected to further analysis next Wednesday.
In its statement, Syvicol added it was disappointed by the government's refusal not to formalise a systematic consultation of the union.
