The Robert Koch Institute officially changed Luxembourg’s status on Thursday morning, meaning the Grand Duchy is no longer part of the list of at-risk countries. The German ministry of foreign affairs warns that this change could still be reversed again according to new infections. Similar restrictions could also apply once more to Spain, Belgium, and Bulgaria.
Jean Asselborn issued a statement regarding the change of status: “Luxembourgers are effective immediately allowed to cross the border again without any restrictions.” This applies to our neighbouring states Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate, which both stepped up to argue in favour of the Grand Duchy. Saarland’s administration issued a statement on Thursday, welcoming the change of status and stating that Luxembourgers could enter without having to quarantine.
It remains unclear however if this applies to all German states, since the Robert Koch Institute also emphasised that any traveller coming to Germany, as individual states may apply their own restrictions.
