The scam consists of a caller informing the victim that they have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for coronavirus. The scammer then advises they will send a testing kit to the victim’s home once the victim has paid the sum of €50, demanding the victim’s card details in order to carry out the transaction. If the victim refuses, the caller threatens them with a fine.
It is strongly recommended to never give out your bank or card details over the phone in such cases. If there is any doubt, contact the police or the Ministry of Health.
Despite the numerous posts circulating on social media, Luxembourg police informed RTL on Tuesday that they were yet to receive a report of the scam taking place.
