The refurbishing works took two and a half years to complete and cost about €10 million.
Lanes were added and traffic lights were installed among other measures in efforts to make the busy through point safer and less congested. The goal is to improve traffic flow and increase safety on the location.
The old ‘Schaffner’ roundabout was first planned in 1992 as part of a large-scale construction project for the Luxembourg City bypass.
After the Irgäertchen roundabout project’s successful construction, the one in Sandweiler is to be refurbished next.
This means the routes are going to be far from free of jams.
