Luxembourg's prices, including those for food, are well above the European average.

According to data compiled by Eurostat in 2019 and presented last week, Luxembourg is among the most expensive countries in the EU when it comes to purchasing goods, especially food and non-alcoholic drinks.

Only Denmark and Ireland are pricier than Luxembourg, with the Grand Duchy coming in third place.

The study, further extended to Norway, Switzerland and Iceland, reveals that Luxembourg ties with Austria when it comes to prices of food products and non-alcoholic drinks; prices charged are around 24% higher than the European average.

Denmark is in first place, with an average price that is 29% higher than fellow member states.

Switzerland and Norway, two countries outside of the EU, have the highest average prices, with 63% and 57% respectively.

Clothes are also included and roughly 8% above the average.

Alcoholic beverages, tobacco and shoes, on the other hand, are generally much cheaper compared to other EU countries.
