The flags will be at half-mast during the coming days to take a symbolic stand against border closures. The flags will be lifted again on 9 May, which marks Europe Day in the European Union. This gesture is meant to send a signal of hope for European unity, Syvicol president Emile Eischer told RTL.
Discussions with the government to host the same symbolic gesture across the country as well as in neighbouring municipalities in Germany, France, and Belgium are ongoing.
Several municipalities in the Moselle valley have already flows the European flag at half-mast this Monday.
