After the announced departure of Lucien Weiler, the court has been looking for a successor for the post of royal steward.
Starting from 1 June, Yuriko Backes, formerly the national representative for the EU commission, will be appointed to the court. Lucien Weiler, who held the post for over four years, is set to retire.
Backes has enjoyed a long-standing diplomatic career. Between 2010 and 2016, she was an active consultant to Prime Ministers Juncker and later Bettel. She has moreover represented the Grand Duchy's interests in Brussels, New York, and Tokyo.
More changes in the court's staff organisation have been introduced after the publication of the infamous Waringo report. General manager David Grieu had been let go as a consequence of the report.
Initially, Weiler was set to retire from his post at the end of 2019, as agreed with Grand Duke Henri himself. The CSV politician had previously held the post of president of the chamber from 2004 to 2009. In 2013, he decided to not put his name up for reelection.
