
Minister of Mobility François Bausch reiterated that face masks will be mandatory on Luxembourg’s buses, trains, and trams as of next Monday. Passengers can also use alternative or homemade masks as long as they cover mouth and nose. Individuals who do not respect this new precautionary measure risk a €149 fine. All other social distancing measures also continue to apply. Police will continue to carry out checks.
Construction sites will reopen on Monday. Minister Bausch explained that important construction sites will be prioritised, including those on motorways and on the tram network or schools. The state will also take advantage of the reduce traffic to complete construction works more quickly than under normal circumstances.
Minister of Labour Dan Kersch that new regulations apply in order to protect workers as efficiently as possible. Construction workers will have to be informed and trained and disinfectant needs to be freely available on all construction sites. Safety and protective equipment is also adapted to the ongoing crisis and indoor workplaces have to be cleaned regularly. Kersch added that the government had fruitful discussions with trade unions and employers. The army has helped with the distribution of face masks in the construction sector.
Minister Bausch confirmed that night flights undertaken by Cargolux had increased in recent weeks, but had been essential in the process of gathering resources. He apologised for potential noise disturbances at night but emphasised that the situation could be much worse in Luxembourg if it hadn’t been for the tireless efforts of Cargolux.
