A police check quickly turned into a car chase, before the perpetrators crashed as a result.
At 11am on Monday morning, a car carrying three passengers drew police attention while on the road from Thionville to Luxembourg.
Officers attempted to pull the car over as they suspected an infringement of the Grand-Ducal regulation concerning travel in the context of the current health crisis.
The suspects initially complied, but as police officers got out their car to perform a check, the driver suddenly drove on to the pavement, carrying out dangerous manoeuvres in the process. During the escape attempt, the vehicle crashed into several parked cars on Rue Dernier Sol, before the force of the shock resulted in a collision with the police car.
Officers immobilised the driver as he displayed violent behaviour when attempting to flee the scene.
During the identity check, it transpired that the three men were illegally staying in Luxembourg.
At the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office, they were transferred to the competent service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
