The ministry of health has issued a recommendation that events attracting over 1,000 people are postponed or cancelled given the spread of the coronavirus.
In issuing their recommendation, the ministry notes that public gatherings 'promote the transmission of the virus', and the decision was made taking into account the spread of the COVID-19 virus "in other European countries in general, and neighbouring countries in particular."
This is however just a recommendation at this point, and it is up to event organisers to decide whether or not to proceed with any upcoming events. The statement also notes that schools, shops, businesses, public transport, shopping centres, restaurants, and bars are not affected by this recommendation.
Neighbouring France has placed a ban on events of this size, while German health minister Jens Spahn has recommended cancellations of large events. The fifth coronavirus case in Luxembourg was confirmed on Sunday, and a cross-border worker residing in France was found to carry the virus on Monday.
