A survey shows that young Luxembourgers are not active enough.
According to a large study published at the end of November in medical journal The Lancet, adolescents in the Grand Duchy are not keen on physical activity.
The study, which compiled data from 146 countries, indicated that the majority of adolescents do not adhere to the recommendations for physical activity.
The recommendation is around one hour per day for children and adolescents. The report stated it is urgent to encourage more physical activity to protect the younger generations' health.
Around 79.2% of Luxembourgers aged between 11 and 17 do not take part in enough sport. Although the figures are slowly decreasing (80.8% in 2001), the Grand Duchy ranks slightly worse than the average for developed countries. Girls (85.4%) are more affected than boys (73.4%) and their habits tend to improve less quickly.
