French news site Virgule reports that 26 flights departing Findel airport will be affected as part of a number of cuts announced by the budget airline Ryanair.
In addition, flights from Luxembourg to Barcelona will drop from 135 to 124, while connections to Madrid will go from 155 to 140.
The cuts are part of a broader initiative by the Irish low-cost airline, which announced earlier this month that it plans to serve significantly fewer Spanish airports during the winter season.
In total, Ryanair will eliminate around a million seats across Europe, blaming this decision on "excessive and uncompetitive airport charges" imposed by Spanish airport management body Aena. This organisation plans to increase its tariffs by 6.6% in 2026.
The dispute can be traced back to a fine exceeding 107 million euros imposed on Ryanair by the Spanish government in 2024 for "abusive practices", which included charging passengers additional fees for hand luggage. Since then, the Irish airline has warned that increasing airport taxes would leave many routes, particularly those to popular holiday destinations such as the Canary Islands, unviable.
Ryanair estimates around 10%, or 400,000 seats, will be affected by cutting flights to Tenerife alone, while 600,000 others will be cut to other Spanish destinations.
Aena general director Maurici Lucena accused the airline of "extortion", insisting that Spanish airports should not be run in accordance with Ryanair's demands.
This conflict already led to Ryanair reducing its services to a number of French destinations earlier this year, as a number of European authorities accused the airline of exerting pressure on fiscal and pricing policies.
