Cahen, who shared her letter to Xavier Bettel on social media, believes that the involvement of the Ethics Committee will make the heated discussions more objective. According to the minister, the debates are stained by party political interests and personal interests. She hopes that Luxembourg’s political sphere will find its way back to “the right tone in mutual interaction.”

In her letter to the minister of state, Cahen also reacts to the accusations that have been made against her. She argues that her email to the Commercial Union was not about her shoe shop on Avenue de la Liberté but about the difficulties that local business are facing because of the roadworks. She again apologised for having used her ministerial email account.

Regarding her listing of an apartment on online marketplace Airbnb, Cahen argued that it was not a traditional “commercial activity” but represented a “simple limited term tenancy.”

She concluded that every citizen has the right to be involved in politics regardless of one’s occupation. After a mandate, she stressed, a former politician should be allowed to exert his or her former profession.

Sven Clement’s parliamentary question

President of Luxembourg’s Pirate Party Sven Clement argued that Cahen, according to her own statements, had phoned the director of Luxtram to express her concerns.
