
The employees were first presented to an investigating magistrate and then put in provisional detention for their involvement in a public funds embezzlement affair, as reported by the Luxemburger Wort.
According to our sources, nearly €3 million in public funds were embezzled. The affair came to light in June after the municipal authorities attempted to locate funds owed to the municipality. After consulting their insurance, the authorities realised the amount in question had been placed in an external bank account not belonging to the municipality.
Following the revelations, the two concerned employees were put on sick leave and on Thursday, were finally placed in provisional detention.
