How it looks nowA year after the forest fires in Oesling

RTL Today
A year ago, a fire spread across the forest between Schlindermanderscheid and Consthum, keeping fire fighters on edge for hours.

An abundance of apocalypse-like images, a charred wasteland akin to scenes in the Mediterranean countries, or California - not images you'd expect from the Grand Duchy. Luckily, no one came to harm in Luxembourg.

On 3 August 2018, a forest fire broke out across the north of the country. More than 150 fire fighters from 18 different teams spent long hours beating back the flames on two fronts, covering an area of 10 hectares through thick undergrowth. 30 vehicles were mobilised in the effort.

Teams from the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps monitored the situation for several days after the initial fire was extinguished, keeping an eye out for individual nests of embers which could break out again.
