In 2022, nearly 10,000 objects were lost on CFL trains, ranging from everyday items like umbrellas and mobile phones to more valuable belongings. Almost half of these lost items were successfully identified and logged into CFL’s inventory through the ‘Nova Find’ programme.

In the same year, nearly 5,000 passengers realised they had forgotten something on a train and promptly contacted CFL for assistance. Among them, around 3,000 individuals made use of CFL’s online lost property office. Passengers who find their belongings in this manner have one month to retrieve them from CFL. 32% of the passengers who sought help for lost property recovered their items.

After a certain period of time, unclaimed lost property is transferred to the “Spëndchen” collection and sorting centre, which then donates the items to charitable organisations like Caritas or the Red Cross. However, valuable items, such as electronic equipment and wallets, are handed over to the Gare police station.

As for the most frequently forgotten items on trains, the list, in order, includes: AirPods, student backpacks, smartphones, water bottles, and hats (according to CFL).

In 2022, the most unusual “object” left behind was, without a doubt, a dwarf goat found at the Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg stop. Fortunately, its owner realised the oversight within a few minutes and quickly returned to retrieve the animal.
