Global travel restrictions and other restrictive measures have impacted the travel industry significantly in 2020.
Compared with the second quarter of 2019, the number of passengers carried decreased by more than 96% in all 19 EU Member States with available data in the second quarter 2020: Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Spain, France, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia and Finland.
Luxembourg experienced a 97% decrease in passengers carried, equating to roughly 1,148,000.
The largest decreases in numbers of passengers were observed in the following countries:
Spain (-61.6 million passengers carried, -99%)
Germany (-59.1 million, -97%)
France (-44.2 million, -97%)
Italy (-42.6 million, -98%)
The Netherlands (-20.9 million, -96%)
Portugal (-15.0 million, -97%)
Ireland (-10.3 million, -98%)
Austria (-9.2 million, -98%)
Denmark (-9.1 million, -97%)
