For this school year alone, 164 people with a traditional school teacher training were recruited, 105 pedagogical supervisors with work experience, and 63 lateral entrants with a bachelor’s degree.
The possibility for lateral entry was first introduced in 2018, and has seen 797 teachers recruited in this manner since. Among them is Sally Lehmeier, a mother of two children who used to work as a social educational worker for ten years. Lehmeier shared that she does not regret her career change despite the tough start, and that she is pleased to teach at the Lenkeschléi School in Dudelange now.
However, as stipulated by law, the possibility of lateral entry has now ceased and is replaced by a 12-month course at the University of Luxembourg where the first 22 students started their education bachelor programme this winter semester.
