Since the Luxembourg City authorities announced that carowners could have their vehicles collected from the underground car park where a fire broke out last week, 43 vehicles have been collected.

Luxembourg City mayor Lydie Polfer announced that 31 cars remain on level -1 of the car park at Wednesday morning's CityBreakfast. However, the mayor had no answer for the actual future of the car park.

She explained that, before considering repairing and reopening the car park, the city must first complete a number of procedures, including examining which conditions must be fulfilled ahead of reopening the car park. The authorities must also run future plans by the Inspectorate of Labour and Mines (ITM).

The question remains whether the ITM will ask the authorities to install a sprinkler system or lay electrics in a different way. The car park was built 30 years ago and nowadays, the safety norms differ greatly. Polfer said that depending on the ITM's requirements, it may simply make more sense to completely renovate the car park. The authorities hope to know more about the Rousegäertchen underground car park's future in a month's time.
