2024 has been confirmed as Luxembourg's eighth warmest year on record, with an average annual temperature of 10.5 °C at Findel Airport.

Meteolux has confirmed that 2024 ranks as one of the hottest years on record, falling just behind the 11.3°C peak set in 2020. The year was 0.7°C warmer than the 1991–2020 average, continuing the region’s warming trend.

Rainfall was notably high, with 1090.2 mm recorded – 258.9 mm above the long-term average but still shy of the 1988 record of 1202.1 mm. Sunshine was scarce, with just 1564.3 hours, falling 238.6 hours below normal, resulting in an unusually cloudy year.

The winter of 2023–2024 was the third warmest on record, averaging 4.1°C, with February setting a record at 6.5°C. While summer was moderate overall, it saw intense storms, including one on 29 June that caused €24.5 million in damages.

Spring 2024 was marked by heavy rains and warmth, with May recording the second-highest rainfall since 1947, leading to local flooding and disruptions. Sunshine during spring was 31% below the usual amount, and autumn followed suit, with rainfall 50% above average.

September and October experienced particularly heavy rainfall, with all three autumn months being warmer than usual.

Extreme weather events throughout the year included freezing rain in January, record warmth in February at 6.5°C, severe storms in June causing €24.5 million in damage, and May’s record rainfall leading to flooding.
