No fewer than 20 fines were issued from 11am to 3pm on Thursday, as police stopped lorries travelling towards Belgium on the A6 motorway.

Four drivers were stopped for violating the ban on overtaking, while three were caught speeding and two failed to respect the safe distance rule.

Two vehicles had tyres which did not meet standards, and two did not have correctly secured loads. Others were spotted using their mobile phone at the wheel, while some drivers were not taking adequate rest breaks.
