In response to a parliamentary question by MP Carole Hartmann from the Democratic Party (DP), Bofferding said that to date, the Ministry of Home Affairs has received 15 requests for reimbursement from municipalities or municipal syndicates following the severe flooding in mid-July. The Ministry has introduced a special form for the declaration of damage to public facilities in the municipalities.
However, it is not yet possible to put a figure on the overall damage, according to Bofferding, who explains that a budget of €5 million has been earmarked in the 2022 budget to financially compensate municipalities whose infrastructure was damaged by the floods.
The Ministry of Home Affairs will only reimburse damage that is not covered by insurance or other public bodies. The first reimbursements will be made at the beginning of 2022, when the first applications have been fully processed.
