Together with its partners, the non-profit organisation LUkraine launched a global fundraiser campaign under the slogan “Ukraine is calling”. Organisers hope to collect €10 million over the next months to donate to emergency services in the country, purchasing 112 emergency vehicles.
Everything began in 2015 with one ambulance. LUkraine had sent the vehicle to Sloviansk, a city with a population of 100,000, after it was damaged in the war in Donbas. Only one ambulance was left. Over time, more ambulances and fire trucks were donated to various places in Ukraine.
Even a small country like Luxembourg can make a big impact, says LUkraine president Nicolas Zharov: “For us it is very important to show that Luxembourg is a country that has given so much effort and solidarity to support Ukrainians.”

The campaign will extend to other European countries in December, as well as the United States and Canada. In March 2023 the first deliveries will be made.
“The CGDIS and the Ministry of the Interior will already deliver 8 to 10 cars, we are awaiting confirmations to make a stock report. They were used in Luxembourg but they must be replaced in the near future, so we’re very thankful”, says Zharov.
Both civil society and political actors are asked to help Ukraine, says Anne Calteux, the representative of the EU Commission in Luxembourg: “From the first day we were united and in solidarity with Ukraine. €19 billion euros have so far arrived in Ukraine, be it financial, budgetary or humanitarian. This is very important and it must continue as the war becomes more intense.”
Concrete strategies for the reconstruction of Ukraine are currently being discussed on a European level, Caltreux says.
