Graduation despite Covid110 Lycée Hubert Clement students receive final diploma on Saturday

The secondary school in Esch-sur-Alzette was able to organise the festivities under almost normal conditions.

It is a special moment in the life of every high school student. After seven years, 110 pupils from Lycée Hubert Clement received their final diploma on Saturday. Although they were able to spend a maximum amount of time being educated in school and not at home, it was still not easy, as some students reported on Saturday:

“Our class was sent home at least four times, and we were isolated in the school another seven times.”

“The year was actually not that tough, I think teachers helped a lot by adjusting the programme.”

It was therefore important to the high school directorate to organise a graduation ceremony that could be considered as normal as possible. By using the Covid-Check and rapid tests, students and family members were allowed to sit inside without having to wear a mask.

Minister of Education Claude Meisch does not believe that their diplomas are less valuable because some parts of the programme had to be adapted: “We did everything in our power to ensure that graduating students receive all they need for their life ahead. But at the same time, we made sure that exams were fair given the circumstances.”

Meanwhile, some of the graduates were already eager to look ahead:

“I will definitely go to university. Either here in Luxembourg, or in Brussels.”

“I want to study medicine. I am registered both at Uni.lu and in Brussels, but I still have to see where I will end up.”
