On Thursday, the police published their results of the day of increased speed checks. In total, police officers organised around 200 separate traffic checks throughout Luxembourg. A staggering total of more than 1,200 motorists were caught driving too fast — despite the advance announcements of the speed enforcement marathon and the exposure on social media.
As the police write, the majority of the speeding incidents were caught by speed cameras, both permanent and mobile ones.
Around 250 of those motorists were caught driving too fast in traffic checks. Police officers confiscated two driver's licenses on the spot for excessive speeding. Police officers also kept an eye out for other infractions whilst driving, such as paperwork requiring updating or the use of a mobile phone while driving.
26 European countries participated in the speed enforcement marathon arranged by TISPOL (Traffic Information Police).
