Key points of Xavier Bettel's State of the Nation speech
On Tuesday afternoon, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel gave his eighth State of the Nation address at the Chamber. Below you can find up-to-date ticker translations.

At 2.30pm on Tuesday, the current parliamentary session came to an end, giving way to the 2020/2021 session. The Prime Minister commenced his State of the Nation speech for what has been an extraordinary year in the midst of a global pandemic.

As expected, the speech covered political orientations for topics such as taxes, housing, the economy, social issues and government finances.
On Wednesday, Minister of Finance Pierre Gramegna will present the 2021 budget plan in detail, in conjunction with this year’s rapporteur, Green Party MP François Benoy.

Parliamentary debates on the Prime Minister’s speech will be held on Wednesday at 1.30pm and on Thursday at 8am at the Cercle.

On Tuesday, outgoing MPs Marco Schank (CSV) and Gast Gibéryen (ADR) will have the last opportunity to address their party colleagues ahead of their resignations. Their replacements, Jean-Paul Schaaf and Fred Keup, will be sworn in the following day.
