Our summer series begins in Oesling, also known as the Luxembourg Ardennes, in the north of the Grand Duchy. This region is famed for its diverse hiking trails, as well as an impressive array of castles and other historic buildings.

Among the country’s many highlights, Vianden Castle stands out as one of its most recognisable landmarks. More than 900 years old, this impressive medieval stone fortress overlooks the picturesque Our River Valley.

Equally notable is the Family of Man photography exhibition in Clervaux, a major cultural attraction drawing visitors from around the world and recognised as part of UNESCO’s World Documentary Heritage.

For all the history fiends out there, Diekirch’s Military Museum and the Schumann’s Eck Memorial offer a fascinating journey back to the fierce battles of the Ardennes Offensive in 1944–45.

Oesling is also a popular destination for local tourists during the summer months, particularly when temperatures rise. The beach spots around Upper Sûre Lake offer a refreshing escape for locals looking to cool off, with a range of activities including kayaking, paddleboarding, and other water sports.
