A student in Caen, France, returned to her flat after three months away only to encounter the shock of her life.

A bag of potatoes she had left in her flat during the coronavirus lockdown sprouted roots.

These weren't just any roots however: they could more accurately be described as dozens of tentacles, which had entirely colonised the student's room.

'I almost had a heart attack,' she commented on Twitter.
