Discover what it's like to dine without sight: Luxembourg City's new 'Dinner in the Dark' series offers a truly immersive food experience led by visually impaired hosts.
Forget candlelight, this dinner is served in complete darkness: a unique event series, called 'Dinner in the Dark', is set to take place across Luxembourg City this year, allowing participants to experience an evening meal in total darkness – guided by visually impaired hosts. The initiative is part of the municipality's 'Special Needs Awareness Weeks' and aims to strengthen social cohesion by bridging the gap between individuals with special needs and the general public.
Running from April to November 2025, the dinners will be held at various venues, including:
- Le Rendez-vous (29 April)
- Flow (20 May)
- Odeon (26 June)
- Limpertsberg (10 July)
- Meliã (25 September)
- Aka Cité (23 October)
- La Locanda (20 November)
Each evening will run from 7–10pm and includes a full dinner service at a cost of €45 per person, excluding drinks, with options for meat, fish, or vegetarian meals depending on the restaurant's menu.
The Dinner in the Dark concept not only offers a memorable sensory experience but also serves as a platform for meaningful exchange and understanding. Visually impaired guides assist participants throughout the evening, shifting perspectives and encouraging open conversation about everyday challenges faced by those living with visual impairments.
Seats are limited and reservations are required in advance. The event is organised by the City of Luxembourg in collaboration with the 'participative special needs committee'.
