
While much of Luxembourg slows down over the Christmas holidays, a limited number of family-friendly workshops, performances and museum activities remain on offer.
Throughout Christmas week, in Luxembourg City, the Winterkids Village at Place Guillaume II will continue to offer a warm, creative setting for children and parents during the holidays. The programme brings together a wide range of activities, including cooking, handicraft and gift-making workshops, alongside puppet shows, singing and live music.
With nearly 300 workshops and performances scheduled overall, families can drop in and take part without prior reservation, signing up on site shortly before each activity, subject to availability. The village is closed on 25 December. More details here.
In Steinsel, children can get into the festive spirit at a Creative Christmas workshop for toddlers and kids, organised by the Commune de Steinsel.
Designed for early years, the session offers hands-on seasonal craft activities in a relaxed, family-friendly setting, giving children space to explore and create at their own pace. The workshop takes place at De Kolibri and runs through the morning into early afternoon. More details here.
At the Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg, audiences young and old can enjoy Hansel and Gretel, the latest Christmas production following Rumpelstiltskin, Rapunzel and All the Animals from the Forest.
Written by Cosimo Suglia and directed by Daliah Kentges, the show revisits the Brothers Grimm fairy tale of a brother and sister lost in the forest who encounter a witch living in a gingerbread house. Blending theatre, dance and music, the performance explores themes of courage and solidarity in a family-friendly format. Children aged six and over can take part in a candle-making workshop as part of the Winterkids programme at Place Guillaume II in the city centre. Using natural beeswax, participants are guided through the process of creating their own candles, which they can then personalise with decorative elements.

In Luxembourg City, children aged seven to 15 are also invited to step into a magical world at the School of Wizards, part of the WinterKids programme at Place Guillaume II. Families are invited to attend a Christingle service at the Konvikt Chapel in Luxembourg City for a short and accessible celebration designed for all ages. Using the traditional symbol of a decorated orange, the service explores the story of God’s love at Christmas through a mix of traditional and modern carols. At the Musée Dräi Eechelen, visitors of all ages are invited to take part in Mamie et moi, a Knit Café workshop centred on knitting, threads and shared creative skills. Organised by the a.s.b.l.
