Family-friendly ways to enjoy the May Day public holiday in and around Luxembourg.

May is an exciting time in the Grand Duchy, with spring in full swing, a likelihood of decent weather, and a public holiday offering a well-earned break for the whole family. In this article, we offer a quick tour of activities that will be accessible on 1 May for you to learn, play, explore and enjoy. The Butterfly Garden

Luxembourg has some exciting and engaging playgrounds across the country. From pirate ships, to zip-lines, and much more, there are plenty of options for your children to discover/re-discover.

Participate in the Meekranz tradition of Remich  

Why not introduce the children to the wholesome Luxembourgish tradition of the Meekranz – the art of making a spring wreath from wildflowers and greenery. Locals meet on 1 May to collect flowers and twigs and offer support in how to braid them into a beautiful seasonal memento. The wreath can then be hung at your residence for good luck.

Kiermes fun at Differdange and Remich

The Luxembourg tradition of a Kiermes is a seasonal festival that includes stalls and rides – what a native English speaker might call a funfair. During the May Day holiday, Differdange will hold its annual funfair from 25 April to 11 May 2025. Full details can be found here.

Luxembourg Science Centre

For activities with an educational dimension, the Science Centre of Luxembourg will be open on 1 May 2025. You can book the tickets online by clicking this link.

Visit Parc Merveilleux  

Also open on 1 May, Parc Merveilleux is Luxembourg's only wildlife park and boasts over 200 species of animals from five continents. Visit the park's website for further details, opening times, and prices.

Leisure, play, and education for all at the Laborartorium  

Families with children will enjoy playing at the playground, exploring 3D printers, a Nasa spaceship, a climbing wall, and the animated 3D XL animals of the Laborartorium. For parents who wish to combine family activities with their own well-being, there is gym equipment to exercise, and spaces to relax with drinks and snacks

Coffee and play at the playground café, Bissen

The playground café in Bissen will be open on 1 May, and is welcoming families with children at its facilities; one for toddlers, and one for older children . Also, the coffee is great!

Visit Aquatower Berdorf 

If you have never visited Aquatower Berdorf with the kids, 1 May is perfect as the Aquatower will be open from 2pm to 6pm.

Apart from the opportunity to learn with interactive displays in the Aquatower, there is also a water playground at the entrance with picnic tables for family meals. Further information is available here.

Crocus Escape Room  

If you are up for something more adventurous with the children, why not try activities at the Crocus Escape Room. Experience a range of different strategic activities and exciting virtual reality, board games, and relax after afterwards at the cafeteria and restaurant.

Robbesscheier Tourist Centre

A great destination for families with children, offering nature-based activities involving handcrafts and animals. There is also a traditional restaurant with daily menus and special offers.
