Canada will make its Eurovision Song Contest debut in 2027 after the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) confirmed that CBC/Radio-Canada, the country's national public broadcaster, has joined as its newest full member. The announcement means Canada will become the first new participating nation since Australia joined the competition in 2015.
Canada will compete in the semi-finals of the 2027 contest, which will be held in Bulgaria. CBC/Radio-Canada is expected to reveal details later this year on how Canada's first Eurovision representative will be selected.
The move reflects growing Canadian enthusiasm for Eurovision. During the 2026 contest, Canada ranked among the top three countries in the "Rest of the World" vote, while thousands of Canadian fans travelled to Vienna to attend the live shows.
CBC/Radio-Canada President and CEO Marie-Philippe Bouchard said the participation would provide a global platform for Canadian artists while allowing fans to continue voting with the added excitement of supporting their own country.
EBU Eurovision Director Martin Green welcomed Canada to the competition, highlighting the country's longstanding connection to Eurovision through artists including 1988 winner Céline Dion. He said Canada's participation would bring fresh creativity and energy to the contest, which attracted more than 130 million viewers worldwide in 2026.
