This weekend, from 15-17 August, gaming enthusiasts from all over Luxembourg gather to participate in the fundraising event Savepoint Charity Stream with the hopes of raising as much money for 'Plooschter Projet' (Plaster project) as possible.
From 15-17 August 2025, the Savepoint Charity Stream is held across three days. The marathon involves playing video games and streaming it for a good cause. The charity stream first started in 2019, with the main aim being to raise money for a good cause. In exchange for their donations, people can watch the gamers play for three days straight via live stream. The concept of the charity event has proven to be successful and interesting to spectators.
A similar concept exists in the United States, under the name of AGDQ (Awesome Games Done Quick) or SGDQ (Summer Games Done Quick). Their event consists of playing video games at a quick speed – a so-called speedrun – and spectators can donate money during the games. Ultimately, leading to several millions of dollars being raised.
The proceeds made during the Luxembourgish version of the event, the Savepoint Charity Stream, will be donated to 'Plooschter Projet', a non-profit association that regularly hosts awareness and registration campaigns to educate people about leukemia and to encourage them to become stem cell donors.
Since the association's founding in 2014, over 15.000 volunteered to register as stem cell donors, and roughly 100 donated thereby giving a patient a new chance to live. The Savepoint Charity Stream favours fun video games that can be played by multiple people, for instance Mario Party, Goat Simulator, or Mario Kart. They also include party games such as Gartic Phone or Jackbox Party, where spectators are encouraged to participate.
The stream will be broadcast by on Twitch, further information about the project can be found on the host's website.
Videogames.lu primarily organises gaming cafés that welcome people of all ages to come together in a social setting to play board games, eat a good meal and talk. The intention of these events is to remove people from their screens and motivate them to engage in social events.
The non-profit association videogames.lu is hoping for another successful year of solidarity amongst the gaming community to make their Twitch stream as attractive as possible to generate a maximum amount of donations. The live stream begins on Friday 15 August 6pm and ends on Sunday 17 August 6pm, as outlined in videogames.lu press release.
