The pejorative expression is used to describe someone not respecting the general safety measures.
Regular visitors of the Luxembourg Online Dictionary will no doubt have noticed the recent addition of a Covid-19 glossary.
The centre for the Luxembourgish language has accumulated a list of terms and phrases related to the pandemic. When arriving at the letter "C", not far after the word "confinement", you can now seen an article for the term "Covidiot" (as well as the female "Covidiotin"). Rather self-explanatory, the word is used to describe a person not respecting the safety regulations of the pandemic. As an example: "My neighbour actually wanted to organise a party during confinement, what a covidiot!"
It can only be hoped that the term will not have to be used in its plural form too often in the future, and that events such as illegal "corona parties" remain a curiosity of the past.
