Appealing or appalling? A new job opportunity may sound like a dream to some - or like a nightmare to others. This editor at least wouldn't mind too much.

Dreaming of making money while doing pretty much nothing at all? Then you might need to consider taking advantage of a rather unorthodox job opportunity in Sweden. The only requirement of the art-project-turned-job? The chosen candidate will need to report to the Korsvägen train station in Gothenburg, Sweden, every morning and turn on a set of lights. After that, you can spend the rest of your day how and where as you please (you don’t even have to stay at the station) until you clock out again in the evening and turn off the lights.

According to the job description, the chosen employee will receive a salary and various benefits, including vacation days and a pension - if you decide to do this for life. However, you are not allowed to have another job on the side. Tough times.

Swedish artists Simon Goldin and Jakob Senneby are the minds behind the idea and fittingly named their social experiment / art project “Eternal Employment.” They are funding the salary of the employee with prize money that they won from Public Art Agency Sweden and Swedish Art Transportation.

The job will be open for applications in 2025.
