Lemi Ponifasio, the artistic director and choreographer, created his latest project ‘Sea Beneath the Skin’ to uniquely connect Gustav Mahler’s music with traditional chants of the Pacific region.
However, his concert is not supposed to be for entertainment purposes only: it is also a ‘warning against maritime pollution and a meditation on life and what comes after’. The concert is part of the ‘red bridge project’ which was called to life by MUDAM, the Grand Théâtre and the Philharmonie.
The evening will combine beautiful stage design, dance, classical music and Pacific culture with a strong ecological message.
