We present to you the 2016 short film FREDDIE, directed by Andy Bausch and starring Nilton Martins in the role of the Queen front man.
Twenty-five years after Mercury’s death, who died on 24 November 1991, a Luxembourgish film crew launched a project to cover the life of the charismatic singer and songwriter.
The undertaking was lead by Martins, who took stepped into the shoes of Mercury himself. The actor described the roll as being physically and mentally transformative.
The short is followed by a making-of, in which Martins provides further insight into his artistic process, as well as the technical and musical challenges that accompanied the movie.
The short focuses on Mercury’s fears and the sickness that ultimately took his life.
The movie sees the singer being haunted by a ghostly alter ego in the backstage area before the start of a show.
