The Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) continued its tradition of attracting a massive audience, with organisers reporting significant growth across both traditional television and digital platforms. The 70th edition, held in Vienna, not only drew large numbers in front of TV screens but also reached a new generation of fans online.

2.75 billion views on social media

On average, 42.6 percent of people watching television during the broadcast tuned in to the ESC, more than double the usual. Among viewers aged 15 to 24, the share climbed to 54.8 percent, marking a notable increase from last year and four times higher than the average for other programmes.

In 40 percent of participating countries, over half of all television viewers watched the contest, with Finland topping the charts at a record 92 percent. In total, the broadcast reached around 131 million people across 35 countries.

Online engagement also soared. The ESC final was watched by 5.43 million people on YouTube, up 4.6 percent from the previous year. Across YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, videos related to the Eurovision Song Contest published between 1 January and 30 May generated a staggering 2.75 billion views.

Votes cast from 148 countries

Voting was not confined to participating countries this year. Votes from countries and territories outside the competition were collected and counted as a single “country” in both semi-finals and the grand final. The highest number of votes came from the United States, the Netherlands, Canada, Spain, Ireland, Slovakia, Turkey, Hungary, the United Arab Emirates, and Mexico.

Vienna, which hosted this year’s event, welcomed 320,000 attendees at various Eurovision-related events. Fans from 75 countries purchased tickets for the nine shows that make up the ESC, while 1,050 accredited journalists from 50 countries covered the competition
