The German band Meute opened the open-air concert series at Neumünster on Saturday evening.

This wasn’t the German techno marching band’s first visit to the Grand Duchy – and, much like last time, Meute electrified the audience with a non-electrical electronic show.

Known for their distinctive blend of electronic beats and classic brass-band energy, 11 red-uniformed musicians from Hamburg drew more than 2,500 spectators to Neumünster Abbey on Saturday evening, kicking off this summer’s open-air concert series in style.

Meute's mix of driving techno rhythms and blues-influenced brass is not an obvious pairing – yet it engaged the delighted audience.

The band, who have played sold-out shows across Europe, as well as in the US and at major festivals including Coachella, proved once again that synths and laptops aren't essential for dance music.

Performing with infectious energy – not just on stage but also joining the crowd – Meute quickly had the audience dancing. Their trademark move of stepping down from the stage and into the heart of the crowd drew particular cheers.

The band’s joy in performing was unmistakable – not just visible, but palpable – as they transformed the historic square into a memorable party.
