Tonight at 8pm on Today Radio, The Artist Hour celebrates one of the most influential acts in modern music, Daft Punk.
Known for redefining the boundaries of electronic sound, the French duo left behind a legacy that spans nearly three decades, countless genre-shaping moments, and a mystique that only deepened their cultural impact.
Formed in Paris in the early 1990s, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo fused house, funk, disco and synthpop into something entirely their own. Their 1997 debut Homework introduced the world to the pulsing minimalism of Da Funk and Around the World.
With Discovery in 2001, they pivoted into a more melodic, pop-informed direction producing era-defining tracks like One More Time, Digital Love and Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.
From their pyramid-staged live sets to the robotic personas they famously adopted, Daft Punk always held a tight grip on both sound and image. Later projects like the Tron: Legacy score and their 2013 album Random Access Memories expanded their reach further, culminating in the global success of Get Lucky and collaborations with artists including Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers, Giorgio Moroder and The Weeknd.
In 2021, Daft Punk announced their split, not with a press release, but with a silent video titled Epilogue. Yet their influence continues to ripple through dance music, pop, film and fashion. They reshaped what electronic music could be, while remaining entirely on their own terms.
Tonight’s Artist Hour dives into the music, the legacy and the lasting emotional pull of Daft Punk. Whether you came to them through the clubs, the charts or the cinema, this is your chance to revisit a catalogue that still sounds like the future.
