On Thursday, Culture Minister Eric Thill launched the 5th Archaeological Research News Days (JALUX) in Esch-Belval.

The event is organised by the National Institute for Archaeological Research (INRA). With around 200 participants on board, JALUX has established itself as the largest scientific event dedicated to cultural heritage in the Greater Region.

In his speech, the culture minister affirmed that political support for archaeology in Luxembourg was secure, pointing out that the State, under a 2022 law, covers 100% of the costs tied to excavations and research.

He also praised the cooperation between INRA and the University of Luxembourg, a partnership that has already led to numerous joint projects and conferences.

This year's JALUX programme, spread across two days, takes in a broad sweep from prehistory to the modern era. It sheds a spotlight on local excavations as well as innovative approaches, including the use of artificial intelligence and digital tools.

The strong presence of international researchers, private-sector stakeholders, and partners from the Greater Region shows that Luxembourg's archaeology is firmly embedded within a dynamic European research network, INRA emphasised in a statement.
