Lët'z Refashion by Caritas offers designer clothes made from recycled fabrics, second-hand garments and sewing workshops. The aim of this peculiar place is to be an informative and educational hub on alternative ways of getting dressing that are more respectful to the planet and the people!
It’s hard to walk past the new pop-up Lët’z Refashion by Caritas Luxembourg on Place Hamilius without noticing its eye appealing window decor and messages : “ Textile production contributes more to climate change than all aviation and shipping combined “, “ 30% de notre dressing n’est jamais porté “ or “Fast Fashion is not free – someone is paying for it”.
Lët'z Refashion, unlike other shops, has as main objective to present sustainable and ethical alternatives to fast-fashion, encouraging a more reasonable clothes consumption. In this atypical place, you will first discover designers clothes made from recycled fabrics. These upcycling designers work with old clothes or fabric scraps. Committed to circular fashion, each one of them demonstrates great creativity in giving a second life to the leftovers and unwanted fabrics. In Luxembourg, whilst we throw away the equivalent of 95 t-shirts every minute*, our designers are committed to limiting the negative effects of our clothing consumption by giving a new life to our textile waste.
Next to upcycled garments you’ll also find local second hand selections for every budget. Very popular with young people, second hand is another simple solution to make our wardrobe more sustainable and its part for a more sustainable way of living. Local associations such as SNJ, BIRK, BENU or Sustained are also taking part in this project by providing upcycled clothes and accessories for sale.
Lastly, at Lët’z Refashion you can partake in sewing workshops and learn how to transform, repair, customise a garment and simply…make it last! Every Thursday and Saturday after opening hours, we set up our sewing equipment and put everything at disposal for our workshop participants. It’s an ideal opportunity to creatively fix that little black dress you like or to redesign your grandma’s gorgeous coat!
The Lët'z Refashion pop-up is part of the Rethink Your Clothes campaign which is supported by the Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs since 2018 and has a non-profit purpose. This campaign aims to raise awareness about the current challenges in the fashion industry and to offer practical solutions to counter the trend of disposable fashion.
The store is currently looking for a permanent address, given its success since its opening, but in the meantime, come and meet us in our unconventional venue in the city center of Luxembourg.
