The Banque Centrale du Luxembourg (BCL) issues a gold collector's coin in tribute to HRH Prince Charles.
A little less than a year ago, on 10 May 2020, the bells of Notre-Dame de Luxembourg rang out to announce the good news and a few minutes later, a 21-gun salute fired by the Luxembourg Army from the heights of Fort Thüngen resounded around the capital. HRH Prince Charles of Luxembourg had just been born at the Grand Duchess Charlotte Maternity Hospital.
This royal birth delighted the Luxembourg people. The first child of Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and of Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie, Prince Charles of Luxembourg is second in line to the throne after his father. He will therefore be called to ascend the throne and take over as Head of State when the time comes.
Luxembourg's first euro coin celebrating a royal birth
To celebrate this historic event, the Central Bank of Luxembourg is issuing an exceptional collector’s item, that all numismatic collectors will undoubtedly wish to add to their collections, because it is the first Luxembourgish euro coin to celebrate a royal birth.
On the obverse of this coin, the design of which was chosen by Prince Charles’ parents themselves, the newborn is portrayed with the Grand Ducal Palace in the background. Minted in the workshops of the Royal Mint of the Netherlands as a limited edition of just 1,000, this coin is made from one third of an ounce of pure gold. It comes in a box with a certificate of authenticity. Its face value is €100 and its selling price is € 790.
